WHAT IS BONE GRAFTING?
Bone grafting is a surgical procedure that restores or adds bone to areas of the jaw where bone has been lost due to gum disease, trauma, tooth extraction, or prolonged tooth loss. It’s often used to prepare the jaw for dental implants or to maintain facial structure. The grafting material can come from your own bone, a donor source, or be synthetic, all designed to stimulate natural bone growth.

HOW DOES BONE GRAFTING HELP, AND WHAT ARE ITS BENEFITS?
Bone grafting strengthens the jaw and creates a stable foundation for future dental treatments. It allows for successful placement of dental implants, prevents bone shrinkage and facial collapse after tooth loss, restores jaw stability, and helps prevent further deterioration. It also makes patients eligible for treatments they might not have been candidates for otherwise, such as implants or full-mouth restorations.
WHAT IS THE BONE GRAFTING PROCEDURE AT NEXT DENTAL?
At Next Dental, we use advanced 3D imaging to evaluate bone levels and plan graft placement precisely. The procedure is typically performed under local anesthesia or sedation for your comfort. Once the area is prepared, the selected grafting material is placed in the site and sutured to promote healing and integration. Over the next 3 to 6 months, your body naturally regenerates bone in that area. In some cases, bone grafting is done at the same time as a tooth extraction or implant placement.

FREQUETLY ASKED QUESTIONS
1. Is bone grafting painful?
The procedure is performed under local anesthesia or sedation, so you won’t feel pain. Some mild soreness afterward is normal and manageable
2. How long does it take to heal?
Initial healing takes a few weeks, but full bone integration typically takes 3 to 6 months
3. Where does the bone graft come from?
Graft material may come from your own body, a donor source, or a synthetic substitute. We’ll help you choose the best option for your needs
4. Do I always need a bone graft before getting implants?
Not always. We’ll assess your jawbone with imaging to determine if grafting is needed to ensure implant stability
5. Are there risks involved?
As with any surgery, there are small risks like infection or graft failure, but our team provides detailed aftercare to minimize these risks and support healing
